19-year-old Lloyd Martin has made history as the youngest person with Down Syndrome to complete the London Marathon. After running 14 miles continuously, a personal best, he finished the race by alternating walking and jogging. Lloyd was recognized with a Guinness World Records plaque at the finish line. His mother, Ceri Hooper, a former international athlete, has played a crucial role in his training regimen, primarily developed through 5k races.

Olivia Wood, a student at Jefferson Community College, was awarded a $500 scholarship by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association. Initially a biochemistry major, Wood was inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement after speaking with a state trooper trainee. She has been in the criminal justice program for a year and a half with the goal of becoming a trooper. The scholarship, presented by Jefferson County Sheriff Peter R. Barnett, will aid her continued education. Wood acknowledged the scholarship as an honor and credited her professor, Paul Alteri, as an inspiration.

Local sales tax collections in New York State increased by 1.6% in the first quarter of 2024, totaling $5.6 billion, with New York City driving most of the growth. The increase marks the slowest growth for this period since 2021. While New York City and Westchester County saw notable increases, several upstate regions experienced declines, with Yates County recording the most significant drop.

Kasine A. Forsey, a 29-year-old man from Passaic, New Jersey, was arrested in Massena after a traffic stop led to charges of drug possession and criminal impersonation. Forsey is currently being held without bail following his detention by the state police's VGNET.
