Tri-County Hunters Achieve Remarkable Deer Harvest Over 16,000 in 2023

The state Department of Environmental Conservation reported that hunters in the tri-county area harvested over 16,000 deer in 2023. Jefferson County, St. Lawrence County, and Lewis County contributed significantly to this number, with Jefferson and St. Lawrence being among the top counties for deer harvests in the state. In addition to adult deer, a considerable number of fawns were also harvested across these counties, reflecting a robust hunting season.

The House and Senate agriculture committees have outlined expansions to several critical programs in the anticipated update to the Farm Bill, which has been extended through 2024 due to legislative delays. Key proposals include modernizing support frameworks for dairy, price loss, and agricultural risk coverage, with bipartisan support for funding conservation efforts through the Inflation Reduction Act.
